Top 5 Things To Do In Ottawa During Your Free Time

Are you ready to join our bus tour to Ottawa? Not only is Ottawa the capital city of Canada, but it is home to many amusing exhibits and events. If you are struggling to decide what to do during your free time in Ottawa, we have created a list of the top 5 things to do in Ottawa during your free time, so you have a plan when visiting the city.

1. National Gallery of Canada

Number one on our list is to visit the National Gallery of Canada. This art gallery is known as Canada’s national art museum with some of the largest pieces of art in all of North America. The National Gallery of Canada has various paintings, sculptures, and photographs. The most notable sculpture is the giant spider that you have to pass to enter the interior of the museum. The art gallery is also known for its large collection of Indigenous and Canadian works of art, so if you are an art enthusiast, this gallery should not be skipped.

2. Canadian War Museum

If you are a history lover, the Canadian War Museum might be best for you! This historical institution offers exhibits and artwork of various Canadian battles. You can read authentic accounts from Canadian soldiers and see the weapons from the wars on display, which makes the experience more immersive. Additionally, you have the opportunity to meet with a veteran to learn firsthand how the war affected them and their family or friends.

3. Jacques-Cartier park

Built in the 1930s, Jacques-Cartier Park hosts many festivities throughout the year. Whether it be for Canada Day or for Winterlude, there is always something happening in the park. Apart from the festivities, Jacques-Cartier Park also provides wonderful views of the Parliament buildings and is a beautiful place for you to take a break from an overwhelming day. If you are looking for an outdoor activity, Jacques-Cartier Park is a great option for you!

4. Ottawa River

The Ottawa River is an essential part of the city. To view the river better, you can take a water bus, boat, or raft. The river tour will bring you around Ottawa to view different attractions or peaceful spots. If you want to spend your free time doing something more exciting, you can even go white-water rafting in the river! The Ottawa River has something for everyone, and if you like spending time near or in water, it’s worth a visit!

5.  The Dominion Arboretum

Do you like flowers or plants? The Dominion Arboretum has over 2000 types of plants that cover over 86 acres of land. At this park, you can take time to learn about new species of plants you might have never heard of before. Additionally, since this park is generally warmer than other places in Ottawa, there are many plants that only survive in warm climates. If you want to spend the day smelling flowers and taking stunning pictures, check out the Dominion Arboretum.
